VISIT OF DR PASCALE MASSIANI FROM THE SORBONNE UNIVERSITY
The Chemistry department was honored to host Dr Pascale Massiani of Sorbonne University, a senior researcher at the Laboratory of Surface Reactivity (Laboratoire de Réactivité de Surface) and responsible for European affairs at the French National Research Center-Institute of Chemistry. The visit was realized under the support of Program for co-financing of the invited visitors from abroad to Republic of Srpska, of Ministry for scientific and technological development, higher education and information society.
Dr Massiani devoted her entire career to experimental work and support to European networking and project applications in prestigious funds. Her name is on more than 110 peer reviewed international publications, and she had more than 160 appearances at conferences as an author or co-author. She was a member of several prestigious scientific committees, lately also in very significant one in the COST Association. Namely, as a representative of France in this Committee she developed a cooperation with the Chemistry Department of Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Banja Luka, since their teacher Suzana Gotovac Atlagić is representing Bosnia and Herzegovina in this important international body. The cooperation was also concretized through experimental investigations of the natural zeolite from the deposit in Srednja Šnjegotina, which is the topic of the BlowUp project at this Department and also the topic of one of the recent master studies. Namely, this important natural resource of our Republic is sporadically investigated but never systematically so far. Dr. Massiani has enabled that raw and thermally treated samples of this zeolite, prepared at Banja Luka are tested at the Sorbonne University by X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy techniques, X-ray diffractometry, and also that their specific surface is measured by BET method. This research was a motivation for the study visit and during one of the working days, the team of Chemistry Department together with the guest visited the site and again took fresh samples of zeolites for further research of its potential. Dr Massiani visited also the Ministry of Scientific and Technological Development, Higher Education and Information Society, and had a meeting with assistant minister Dr Siniša Marčić. At the meeting, they discussed on the development of science in France and in Srpska and exchange of experiences in applications to international projects with emphasis on ERC projects in which Dr Massiani successfully mentored few winners from Sorbonne.
On June 5, 2019 Dr Massiani was a lecturer at a public seminar held at the Faculty which was primarily financed by Ministry, but also co-financed by EIT raw materials and COST Association and which was very well visited.
Guest departed on June 7, 2019, with positive impressions and particular agreements on continuing cooperation and future joint publications.
